According to Gazzetta.gr, both Arsene Wenger and Brendan Rodgers are keen to bring the German-raised Mitroglou on board in January but face competition from Dortmund, with Inter Milan, Genoa, Benfica and Sporting Lisbon all interested in the player, who is thought to be available for around £7m.

Mitroglou scored against Arsenal in the Champions League last season, and currently plays alongside Gunners loanee Joel Campbell, which could work in Wenger's favour when the time comes to negotiate a deal.

Late-blossoming Mitroglou started his career in Germany with Borussia Monchengladbach, before joining Olympiakos in 2007.

Mitroglou struggled initially in Greece and even spent the better part of two seasons on loan from 2010 to 2012.

But he returned to Olympiakos at the start of last season, impressing in his role as a super-sub, scoring 20 goals in all competitions, before continuing his excellent form as a starter this season.
